Types of Questions: 30 multiple choice questions. This will be a closed book
quiz (ie there are no textbooks, notes or other resources allowed). You are

Due Date (Week 7): The quiz will be accessible during your registered tutorial
class time only for Week 7. You must attend the tutorial class in which you are
registered. You cannot attend an alternative tutorial class as you will not have
access to the quiz.
Please bring your own electronic device in which to complete the quiz
online during the class.
The quiz will operate on a laptop, tablet or a smartphone.
If you do not have any of these electronic devices please identify yourself
to your tutor at the beginning of the semester.

from your tutorial in Week 7, you will be given a mark of zero for the quiz.
Time Limit:
You have 40 minutes to complete the quiz. You are allowed one attempt only
and that will be final. You must answer questions in sequential order. This means
you can’t go back to previous questions. You should not skip any questions. If
you do this, you can’t go back and answer them. Thus, answer each question in
order. If not sure, make your best, educated attempt.

The time starts once you click on Attempt Quiz now.
Once you begin your attempt, you will see the timer begin in the top right
corner.

If you need to leave the quiz during the attempt you can log back in and
resume provided there is time remaining on the timer. However, the timer
countdown is not paused when you leave the quiz.
Hints for Completing the Quiz in iLearn:
Firefox and Google Chrome are the recommended browsers to use (please
update your browser regularly).
The questions and options are all randomized from a database of
questions.
Questions will appear on every new page. The quiz is set sequentially,
therefore you need to complete the current question to move to the next.
Please save your choice for the question and use the Save and
next button at the base of your screen to save and move to the next
question.
You are not allowed to go back to previous questions.
Please do not click the Return to attempt. This option is not available to
you.
When you reach the last question on the last page, click on the Submit all
and finish button at the base of the Summary Screen.
Penalties: No extensions will be granted. Students who do not undertake the
quiz during the assigned period will be awarded a mark of zero for the task. The
quiz cannot be completed outside of your registered tutorial class for Week 7. If
you are absent from your tutorial in Week 7, you will be given a mark of zero for
the quiz. Students who have an approved Disruption to Studies application will
be granted consideration.
Marketing Portfolio: Individual Assessment 30% weighting
Due Date (Week 9): Monday October 9 at 9 am. Online submission via Turnitin.
Your task is to collect a total of 6 different examples relating to specific topics
that illustrate and provide evidence of ‘marketing in action.’
You need to find 1 example from each of the following topics/concepts:
1. Market Research and its use in a marketing plan. This means sourcing an
example that demonstrates the use of market/marketing research to determine

marketing objectives, strategies or tactics.
2. Who are the competition for your favourite product? This means sourcing an
example that demonstrates the impact competition (an external factor) has on
your favourite product and thus influences marketing objectives and strategies.
3. PESTEL and how this affects the introduction of a new product or service. This
means sourcing an example of a new product or service first, and then explaining
how each factor in PESTEL affects entry into the market.
4. SWOT analysis and its use in the marketing plan. This means sourcing an
example that demonstrates how SWOT is used by a company to guide decisions
related to the marketing mix or other elements of the marketing plan.
5. Segmentation, targeting and positioning in marketing (STP): Current trends in
the industry of your choice. This means first choosing an industry that you are
familiar with or interested in. Source an example that describes a current trend
in that industry. Explain how STP could be used to take advantage of the trend.
6. Marketing Ethics – This means sourcing 1 example of a problem with marketing
ethics relating to the marketing of a products or services. Explain how applying
an ethical marketing approach could have helped avoid or address the problem.
Your examples must be current (from 2016, 2017) and should come from sources
such as newspapers, magazines, websites, social media (e.g. consumer blogs),
personal experience, etc. If you are not sure if the source of the evidence/
example is appropriate, please ask your tutor.
Requirements:
You must write a 300 word critique for each topic. Each critique should include:
The topic (from above) should be stated and the relevant headings and
pages numbers from the textbook associated with the topic.
An explanation IN YOUR OWN WORDS of the theory/topic that
demonstrates sound and thorough understanding of the theory/topic.
A brief description of the example, including sources using Harvard/APA
referencing. You may use multiple sources for the example, such as
personal experience and an article in a business publication.
Link between theory and practice. Your task is to evaluate and analyse how
the example bridges theory and practice, and how well it relates to the
chosen topic (from the list above). Suggest future recommendations, your
opinions, limitations, implications or consequences associated with the
example - these will vary depending upon the example and topic. Write

clearly and succinctly in your evaluation and analysis.
Turnitin Submission:
There are multiple submissions to Turnitin allowed. The first time you submit you
will immediately receive the originality report which will give you a percentage
on similarity with other sources on the internet and across other universities.
Percentages higher than 15% suggest that there has not been paraphrasing and
that plagiarism may exist, which is a serious offence at the university. Each
successive submission will have a delay of up to 24 hours on generating this
report, so if you plan to use this as a feedback mechanism, please manage your
time.
It is your responsibility to ensure that your assignment has been successfully
submitted to Turnitin on time, with satisfactory results from the Turnitin
originality assessment.

Penalties:
No extensions will be granted. Students who have an approved Disruption to
Studies application will be granted consideration.
Please ensure you submit your soft copy to the correct Turnitin link before 9 am,
Monday of Week 9:
Late submissions or those submitted incorrectly in Turnitin will receive a
deduction of 20% (or 6 marks) per day. For example, assignments received
from 9.01am Monday but before 9am Tuesday will lose 20% (or 6 marks)
of their total assignment mark. Those received from 9.01am Tuesday but

before 9am Wednesday will lose 40% (or 12 marks) of their total
assignment mark.
You should not exceed the 1,800 word limit (this limit does not include
tables, figures, the reference list, title page and any appendices). Exceeding

of 2 marks.

A three hour, "closed book" final examination for this unit will be held during the
University Examination period. You are expected to present yourself for
examination at the time and place designated in the University Examination
Timetable.
A final examination is included as an assessment task for this unit to provide
assurance that:

• The student has attained the knowledge and skills tested in the exam.
