    Your task is to put yourself in the place of a marketing analyst, and critically assess the marketing mix of ONE product offering from a firm. Choose one of the brands from the list below.
     
    The ‘marketing mix’ is another name for the 4Ps – Product, Price, Place, and Promotion. These are the concepts we have been learning about this semester.
     
    Specifically, you are required to investigate how well the firm has designed its offering to meet the needs of the target market (i.e. who is the target market? What is the positioning of the offer?), and to examine the firm’s product, pricing, distribution and promotional strategies.
     
    Your critical assessment of the firm’s marketing mix strategy for that particular product will give rise to your recommendations of what could be improved to enhance customer value.
     
    Use the following headings for your assignment.
     
    Target Market
     
    In this section you will discuss the target market for the product using demographics and other information you have learned from Chapter 6.

    Positioning
     
    In this section you will discuss how the product is positioned in the market (as well as a discussion of its position relative to its competition) as you have learned from Chapter 6.
     
    Product
     
    In this section you will discuss the actual product and you can use information from Chapter 8 and 9 on products.
     
    Price
     
    In this section you will discuss the pricing strategy used by the firm for the product and you can use information from Chapter 11.

    Place/Distribution
     
    In this section you will discuss the distribution strategy used by the firm for the product and you can use information from Chapter 12.
     
    Promotion
     
    In this section you will discuss how the product is promoted and you can use information from Chapter 13 and Chapter 2.
     
    Recommendations for Improving Customer Value
     
    In this section you will give your recommendations about how the firm can improve customer value and you can use the knowledge you have gained this semester from the various chapters you have studied about how firm’s create value for their customers – see especially Chapter 1 about how brands create value using the 4Ps.
     
    I would recommend that you have an introductory sentence or two which introduces the product and the brand/firm, e.g.’ The Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer is manufactured by the technology company Dyson. Dyson was founded by Sir James Dyson in 1983 when he invented the world’s first bagless vaccum cleaner…..’
     
    The introduction will enable you to provide a bit of background to the brand/firm and the product, but remember you have a word limit, and you will describe the actual product in the section ‘Product’.
     
    References
     
    You will need to provide a minimum of 10 references including a minimum of five peer-reviewed academic journal articles to support your points about target market, positioning, the 4Ps and adding customer value. You can certainly use more than five if you’d like to! Please note journal articles will not about the product or brand as such, rather they will be about the various theories and concepts that you are discussing in your assignment.
     
    You may also reference information from the product website and from other additional sources such as those listed in the Unit Outline.
