    The following activity forms part of your assessment of competency. You may also be required
    to demonstrate your skills and/or provide various workplace documents or third-party reports.
    HETC will give you guidance in this area.
    The following activity has been designed for all learners to complete.
    1. Create two two-page brochures and a one-page promotional flyer for Everyday Office
    Supplies using the following product information. The first brochure should contain
    information about office stationery. The second brochure should contain information about
    office furniture. The promotional flyer should contain information about office equipment on
    sale.
    Both brochures must include the following features:
     company name, logo, address, phone number, fax number, email address and web address
     use of styles for headings and text – you must format the text so it is clear, attractive and
    professional
     a footer on each page that includes the company name and the page number and number
    of pages
     section breaks and at least two different numbers of columns in the document (for
    example, one column in one section and two columns in another section)
     graphics to show the office equipment and supplies that are available – you do not have to
    include a picture for every office equipment and supplies category but there must be at least
    seven graphics in your document. You can either scan the images from magazines or
    brochures or search the Internet for images from office supplies and stationery stores.

    2. Imagine you are sharing information with your office colleagues on how to design a
    brochure. Create a brochure incorporating the answers to the following questions
    a) Explain who the audience is for the brochure.
    b) Describe how you structured the document to use the space effectively.
    c) Describe the design aspects of your document; for example, white space, graphics, page
    layout. Give at least three examples from the document of how you have effectively
    applied these design aspects.
    d) Give two examples of your effective use of design elements (for example, simplicity,
    balance, text flow) in creating the document.
    e) Give examples of at least two automatic software functions (including where in the
    document they were used) that you used to ensure consistency throughout the document.
    f) Write a list of tasks that will need to be completed to produce the document.
    g) Discuss a suitable time frame for producing the document with HETC and assign a length
    of time to each of the tasks to be completed to produce the document.
    h) Give two examples of advanced software functions you have used in producing the
    document.
    i) Provide details of where you imported at least two of your graphics from.
    j) Save and hand in the finished brochure to HETC. Provide at least one draft of the
    document showing your use of editing marks for proofreading and editing the document.
    k) Give one example of how you overcame a problem with using Word when creating the
    document. You may have used manuals, help, the Internet or other staff to assist you.
    l) Explain any strategies you used when creating or storing the documents to minimise the
    risk of data loss.
    m) Store the document in an appropriate way. Explain how you have done this.
    n) Explain what is meant by the term ‘ergonomics”
    o) You are responsible for ensuring that you take appropriate breaks from word processing
    and other data entry tasks. How often should you take a break during the working day
    from these types of tasks?
    p) Outline the work practices you could use to conserve paper and energy in the workplace.
