STUDENT DECLARATION:
I declare that I have read and understood the University of Queensland Foundation Year Student Handbook regarding the policy on dishonesty and plagiarism in assessments.
I understand that there are severe penalties as outlined in the handbook if I fail to comply with the policy.
Introduction.
Many people drink coffee because it can make you awake and also it is tasty as well. I want to investigate the average cups of coffee from IES lounge that IES students consume in a day. Daily coffee habit gives many benefits but too much can bring risks and therefore out of concern for my fellow student I want to make sure they are drinking adequate cups of coffee. Drinking 4 or more cups of coffee a day could be harmful for human body and that can cause many side effects such as insomnia, nervousness, restlessness, irritability, stomach upset, fast heartbeat, and muscle tremors (Mayo Clinic 2014). However, if we drink coffee in adequate amount, it can bring many benefits in our life. Coffee is actually very healthy (Gunnars 2013). As many people know that coffee can help people feel less tired and increase energy levels. Coffee also can help people burn fat, and surprisingly, there are essential nutrients in coffee such as riboflavin which is vitamin B2, pantothenic acid which is vitamin B5, manganese, potassium, magnesium, and niacin which is vitamin B3 (Gunnars 2013). Coffee also may protect people from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia and also may lower the risk of parkinson’s disease which is caused by death of dopamine-generating neurons in the brain. There are many benefits that coffee can bring beside these. Coffee in our life could be important and beneficial, but also having adequate amount of coffee is also important. This project can show are people taking adequate amount of coffee in their life.
The two resources that used in this research are valid because both websites are related with clinic and nutrients so it was able to convince me that the websites are scientific.
Research Method.
H
0 : µ = 4
H
1 : µ < 4
The null hypothesis is equal to 4 and the alternative hypothesis is less than 4.
I can ensure that my sample for the research is voluntary and random because I collected the data randomly in my school IES.
I ensured that my data is valid because each groupmate asked to different students randomly whom I did not know. We also asked them politely so that the people won’t feel bad to be asked.
I asked 20 students in IES randomly.

Through this formula, it was able to get the standard deviation which is 1.25 (3s.f.)
-t(α, n - 1)
Through this formula, it was able to get the t-critical value which is
-1.72913
Through this formula, it was able to get the t-observed value which is -9.838699101
T-Observed = -9.838699101<-1.72913
Result : t
obs= -9.838699101 is on the left of the acceptance region since t
obs=-9.838699101< -1.72913
Conclusion : Reject the Null hypothesis. There is sufficient statistical evidence at a 5% significance level to conclude that the average coffee consumption is less than 4 cups.
Discussion and Conclusions
My null hypothesis is that people drink 4 cups of coffee per a day and my alternative hypothesis is that people drink less than 4 cups of coffee per a day. My hypothesis is that people drink less than 4 cups of coffee per a day. According to the result of the t-test, my alternative hypothesis is correct that people drink less than 4 cups of coffee per a day in average.
I can ensure that my sample for the research is voluntary and random because I collected the data randomly in my school IES.
If I can improve my research, I think I could ask more people to get the accurate average of coffee consumption per person per a day.
If I continued my research in this area, the new question I might ask is what kind of coffee do they drink the most.
