    Executive Summary
This paper describes the steady and significant decrease in the price of oil from 2013 to 2014. It
considers factors which led to this change : increasing supply and lower production costs, and to a
lesser extent, vulnerable demand and financial speculation. The paper then discusses the
proposition that the price of oil is likely to remain lower than its level of ten years ago in the short
term. In considering future supply, it will be argued that this is likely to remain high both in
Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and other oil production countries. In
considering demand, the discussion will point to the development of oil substitutes such as shale
oil, solar, wind and nuclear for power generation as well as the latest technological developments.
The paper concludes that the price of oil is likely to remain low in the foreseeable future.

    Introduction
The price of oil is pivotal in the performance of macro economics. Previous
increases in the price of oil, which took place suddenly and rapidly on three
occasions in the 1970s and 1980s, were the direct cause of global recessions.
The direction which oil prices are likely to take is therefore of considerable
importance to an understanding of macroeconomics. This paper will outline
the reasons for the sudden and significant decrease in oil prices in 2014.
Finally, it will assess whether the current low price of oil is likely to remain.

A good paragraph (in three parts)
“Another reasonable explanation for the CAD is the decline in
foreign domestic demand. This slump in many foreign countries
was cause_ d by an increased savings rate compared with a decline
in investment. This argument is advanced by Ferguson (2005)
who believes that this decline in spending has improved the supply
of capital available to the US, putting downward pressure on US
interest rates and upward pressure on the USD. Therefore the
slump in foreign consumption and investment means that foreign
GDP is lowered. This most probably prompts authorities to keep
their exchange rates competitive to promote export-led growth
(Ferguson, 2005) in turn, limiting US export sales.
This consequently reduces overall US activity, reducing interest
rates slightly, thus causing consumption and investment
spending to once again increase in the US, provoking the
    existence of the CAD".

    Conclusion
To sum up, there is a range of explanations to account
for the future oil price. This essay put forward three
possible explanations, one of which is that the
increasing supply from the OPEC as a result of
potential political reasons. Other explanations put
forward are improving of technologies and substitutes
    and decreasing demands.
Given the evidence provided, it was determined from
evaluation of the explanations outlined that the oil
price is likely to remain low in the distance future.
